Welcome to the Appalachian Blog!

It all begins with an idea.

Welcome! This is a space that we will use to share information about herbs, improving our worlds, and about the amazing area of the world we call Appalachia.

What are we? We are Stan and Mona. We live in the foothills of Appalachia in southeastern Ohio, about 30 minutes from Athens, a place we call Whispering Pine Haven. Our property is mostly wooded with a mix of white pine forest (legacy of a Christmas tree farm from many years ago), alongside mixed hardwood. We have only been here a few years, but have been living and playing in these hills for many years. We are in the process of building out our new garden - which will be a mix of vegetables, fruit, and (of course!) HERBS! In addition, we are in the preparation stages for seeding and planting our forest medicinal herbs this fall.

We are many things: best friends, parents (humans, cats, dogs), passionate readers, growers, corporate workers (when we have to!), stewards of lands, herbalists, passionate tea makers (and drinkers), and many, many other things. The common things that wind through everything we are would be: family, helping others, and nature.

Currently we are working on too many projects to list! But at the top are getting our first tea blend ready to sell and getting the deer fence around the garden. The tea is called Appalachian Sweet Dreams, and as you could guess, it is a tea to drink at the end of the day (whatever time that might be) to unwind and prepare for a night of deep sleep with sweet dreams. It is a blend of five nervine herbs that help to calm the mind and body and tone the nervous system (often overtaxed in these-stress filled days). Look for the official product launch in September.

For the blog, we intend to focus on topics related to herbs (plants, roots, mushrooms, etc.) and their impact in our world. We may throw in a few pictures of our projects and property from time to time, as well as highlight some amazing new thing we found in our travels, but we intend for the theme throughout to be herbs.

If you have a specific topic or question, don’t hesitate to let us know in the comments, or email us at appalachianherbcompany@gmail.com.

It all begins with an idea.

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

Don’t worry about sounding professional. Sound like you. There are over 1.5 billion websites out there, but your story is what’s going to separate this one from the rest. If you read the words back and don’t hear your own voice in your head, that’s a good sign you still have more work to do.

Be clear, be confident and don’t overthink it. The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and your site can evolve with it. Your goal should be to make it feel right for right now. Later will take care of itself. It always does.
