Wheel of the Year - Samhain: Hearth & Hollow
Of all the turnings of the year, Samhain is the oldest and the strangest — the third and final harvest, the doorway into the dark half of the year, the night the veil between worlds wears thinnest. For centuries, those who follow the old ways have marked it the same way: a fire lit, a candle in the window, a place set at the table for the ones who came before. This tea belongs to that night. Mugwort for the dreaming and the doors it opens. Calendula for the spirits, and the candlelight that calls them home. Rosemary for remembrance, always, so nothing beloved is ever truly lost. Around those three old companions: warm ginger, cardamom, and nutmeg — spice that hums rather than hollers — with dark elderberry, tart rosehip, blackberry leaf, and a small measure of hibiscus, all resting on a smooth red rooibos base. The cup brews deep ruby-garnet, earthy and gently spiced, with a quiet depth you can't quite put a name to. Brew it at dusk, one tablespoon per cup, five minutes and no longer — the mugwort gets talkative past that. Or set a jar to cold-steep overnight and see what the morning brings. Caffeine-free, so it will sit with you as long as the night runs. Pour it slow. Keep a candle lit. And if you're keeping the old practice — pour a second cup for someone you miss. No. 2 in the Wheel of the Year collection — eight small-batch blends, one for each turning of the seasonal year. Contains mugwort — not for use during pregnancy. Ingredients: red rooibos, elderberry, rosehip, blackberry leaf, calendula petals, ginger root, hibiscus, rosemary, mugwort, cardamom, nutmeg
